That depends on the applications. Seeing that a 305 is a Chevy small block, which are known for their high revs, 400 plus horses is easily reached with the right carbs.

If your using the stock heads, about 150 HP max. The stock heads are poor flowing and small valves, the worst heads ever made. If you get a set of 2.02 intake heads, a big cam, forged pistons at 10 or 12:1 compression, forged crank, forged rods, 750cfm carb on a dual plane edelbrock intake.... then I would say upto 400 HP...... The 305 block is good, the stock cams and heads were garbage..... the bore and stroke of the engine..... at 3.736" x 3.48" can make some good power.... a 350 has the same stroke, but a bore of 4 inches even.

305's are not very good motors. you can save the crank and rebalance it and it will fit in a 350. also save the rods. thay are a 5.7 inch rod and will also work in a 350. as far as the heads go, it depends on the castings and what kind of power you want to make. 305 heads well help you with some low end torque. but suck at hi rpm horse.

second thought. throw it all away and get a 350.

The desk top dyno says 243 Horse power @ 4500 rpm and it drops after that .
This is theoretical only , probably actually less.
The cam , intake and carb are going to get choked up on the stock heads , small bore , and low compression ratio.
These same parts on a 350 with 10:1 compression pistons will get you almost 100 more horse power.

90-500 or so, depending on year and how much cash you want to drop on it. 70's carb'd engines, expect 110 max. in the 80's, up a little. by the late 80's with tpi fuel injection, 220 would be about it, possibly up to 250, but dont get your hopes up.

don't waste your money on a 305, not that good of an engine to build and are known for weak camshafts, get a 350 and put your money into that.

Not much. Weak motors. My guess would be from 190 to 240 hp depending on year/model.
