I'm at a very confusing time in my life as far as careers go. Everyone keeps telling me it will fall into place in time, but will it really? I really want to go back to school, but I'm clueless as to what I should do. Considering my husband and I want a very big family, something in the education field is ideal, so I can be at home with the kids in the evenings and summer, and won't have to pump half our income into daycare. However, I don't know if teaching is right for me. What other options do I have in the education field? Or what other jobs would be ideal? Please help!

Not sure why there have been a few insulting answers. Do you not understand the question? I am already married, already hold one degree (but finding difficulties in getting a job), and want to work on a second, so I can get a job to stay at home with my kids. I already know some options in the school system, such as school psychology, speech pathology, special education, etc. I just want to make certain I have covered everything. I don't want to make the same mistake and be stuck with another degree I am unsatisfied with. Thank you to those who have given thoughtful responses.

There is a great book called What color is your parachute that many job seeker find useful. It walks you step by step through assisting you in determine what potential careers would suit you. You should be able to buy it at any local book store on online. Also, it sounds like you have a few conflicting factors in your decision making process...although the financial side is important...it will take you in a different direction in attempting to make a career choice. Go with you gut instinct, follow your heart...identify the things that you like and enjoy and you should have a better sense of what types of jobs fit into that,. Good luck...it is not easy and unfortunately so many people out there hate their jobs...I hope you find one that is both rewarding financially and also enjoyable for you!

If you love children or you just like to teach, well I guess a teacher would be a good career for you. You should always do things that you will enjoy. Another job in the education field would probaly be working in community colleges,day-care centers, religious organizations, etc. Well I hope I was of some help to you. Inorder to gain a career, you have to work for. Things won't always fall in place for you. Youhave to work fo it. Praying to God can also give you encouragement.

I would strongly consider going to your local employment office and taking a free assessment test. They are not pass or fail, but what they do is help you see where your strengths and weakness' are, what you would enjoy doing and give you idea's for a career.
As for education, a bus driver, guidance councelor, instructor, school nurse, receptionist, librarian, special education assistant, speech pathologist are all fields in education.
Good luck!

YOU ARE JUST A LITTLE NAIVE MY DEAR. all those plans are too big for you. several kids, go to college and get a degree, pay huge day care bills. etc. etc. unreal. downright crazy and a guaranteed disaster. go back to the drawing board and get some counseling about reality and the real world. you are totally way out there in left field and haven't a clue.

Teaching does have its benefits, if you like to work with kids and you find learning enjoyable yourself. However, there are plenty of other options. For example, many schools have after-school programs, so you could have different hours than your kids and still have them well-taken care of.

Consider what type of work would be the most gratifying to you and then decide if it will fit into your future schedule.

you should definately go back to college. i do think that you should be a teacher for younger kids so you can be with your kids during the day but when they're older you wont be their teacher (embarrising!). but then theres always stay at home, working as a bookkeeper for a local business, and do you watch desperate housewives? if not, theres a lady there that quit her crazy job to help her business that they started - a pizza shop. it could be a gold mine, your kids would love it, and you can make your own hours!
