I've got this irritating fly buzzing around my room. I don't want to kill it.?

Question

How do I get rid of it. I don't want to kill it.
I got it into the kitchen, but it crawled under the door back into my lounge. The window was open but it didn't want to go out (probably too cold here in the UK).
If i don't get an answer soon I'll probably lose my temper and swat it, which might kill it.

Update:
I've got the fly into the kitchen again, and closed the door. I've turned off BOTH kitchen AND lounge lights, and left the kitchen window.
The only light now is the light from the computer monitor - it had dive bombed that twice!
But no fly will keep me from my Yahoo Answers...

The problem now is how do I know whether it has left the kitchen window. It might be lying in wait for me to think that it has gone, before pouncing again.

Turn off the lights so it's as dark as possible in the room. And open a window or door to outside. and then just leave it. After a while it will go outside. Most of these flies are attracted to light; they don't wana be in a dark place if there is light somewhere else.

Why don't you want to kill it? Don't kill:
> intelligent animals (e.g. humans and the great apes)
> rare animals
> in a tight location (which might unbalance the local eco-system)

but swatting a fly contravenes none of the above statements. Kill the thing and be done with it. You are in no way being 'green' or eco-friendly by not swatting a fly!

Aw you're a good person! I don't know many people that would be so annoyed by a fly and still want to get rid of it without killing it. I'm one of those people too, though. If you could, you could try putting a cup over it really quick so it's in between the cup and the wall/floor. Then put a paper under it and let it free outside.

Maybe this might work. Wait until it lands, then put a large mouth jar or pot over it. Then slide a thick piece of card under the jar, then put all three (the jar, the lid, and the fly) out the window. Bon voyage fly.

Update: Can you hang a flashlight outside somehow?

The fly will die soon anyway as its winter they all die off, leaving only their eggs for next year. If you can't stand it just wait for it to be still then pop a glass over it, slide a peice of paper under the glass and then let the fly out of the window. It'll die either way!

Fly's carry nasty germs and spew on your food. Swat it quick, or it may creep into your mouth when your asleep, then you would be like that rhyme. I know an old lady who swallowed a fly. But it would go (I know a guy who swallowed a fly) instead. But the only thing i can think of that rhymes with fly, is that it must die. sorry.

catch in a glass then throw the little blighter out the door or, go find a nice big spider. to get rid of the spider, you can squish it. you can then rest with an easy conscience as, it wouldn't be you killing the fly.

properly the different day i grow to be interior the kitchen and this fly does no longer depart me on my own so I have been given a spatula and sliced it lifeless interior the midsection. LOL no longer likely yet i presumed approximately it. Grr stupid fly!

its easy for to get a fly..if your patient enough..get a clear plastic cup or something clear and when you see the fly very slowly trap it and with a piece of paper slowly lift whatever you are using up and cover it with the paper and let it outside

I would probably trap it in something like a jar for instance. then go close all your windows and let the little guy go free :-) (outside i mean)
