it's all about marketing...dont you think he's made a killing with jersey's selling with his new number 24?

He is a nice guy. He was making it easier on referees. Do you realize that most people have numbers with digits 0-5 on their jerseys? You rarely see a 6-9 digit on players numbers.

The reason: Most referees want to use one hand when they are calling out fouls. They will signal "2" "3" with their fingers. If a player has a number "8" it makes it awkward.

Now, I do not know if this is the case with Kobe. He may have wanted to make it easier on the referees. Maybe he wanted to symbolically change his game.

Bryant said on TNT that he wanted #24 as a rookie, but it was unavailable, as was #33, retired with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He said the switch to 24 signified the start of the second half of his career. Bryant took number 8 after his favorite Italian league player, Mike D'Antoni. Bryant grew up watching D'Antoni as a star point guard in the Italian league, where his father, "Jelly Bean" Bryant, also played.

because it was his HS number but if you ask me, the real reason is so he can make more money. i mean everyone has the #8 one so nobodies buying kobe jerseys, so he changed it so everyone has to buy a new one.

Who cares. All Kobe cares about is himself, his stats, and if there is going to be another girl at his hotel to assault.
