Your voice is not necessarily pitched low, you would say that it has a low timbre, which is kind of different; and generally means that you are more comfortable singing in lower registers; but I guess I'm nitpicking.. ahem!
Some good ways to work on high notes (aside from working with a live singing teacher!!) are to try and place your voice in the nose and mask- use the resonance available in your sinuses and keep your soft palate raised (you can feel this action just before you yawn)- and try to support the sound which means you want to engage your muscles around your waist to keep the ribcage expanded so you have the air and control to go for those notes..
Most importantly do NOT strain the muscles around your neck and throat... although our voices come from the vocal folds, they're the last thing you should ever think of while you're singing or you'll tire yourself.
As for the songs you pick, you said yourself you have a lower voice, so you should probably stick with songs in that range... it'll sound the most natural
Best of luck, and have fun!!

It's very possible to learn to sing well. You just need to know the right methods. Learn here https://tinyurl.im/aH6Zf Singing teachers will cost money and can be expensive so they're not for everyone. Singing can be learned so it's not an "either you have it or you don't" kind of thing. Whether you sound like crap or you're decent, I recommend this singing course. It's one of the best methods to learn to sing well in a short amount of time. It's all about using efficient techniques that work.

You are probably an alto, which is the low female part, rather than a soprano, the high female voice range. High notes can be improved if you practice at them, you will eventually get better.

Thyroid disease is one of the most common health problems we face today. From a practical standpoint, there are many ways to approach this issue. Learn here https://tinyurl.im/aH6rc Hypothyroidism, or underactive thyroid, is a very common problem, and there are many reasons for this, including drinking chlorinated and fluoridated water, and eating brominated flour. Chlorine, fluoride, and bromine are all in the same family as iodine, and can displace iodine in your thyroid gland. Secondly, many people simply aren't getting enough iodine in their diet to begin with. The amount you get from iodized salt is just barely enough to prevent you from getting a goiter.
