Is it true that people only gain power over you if you give them power? For instance, if people always stood up for themselves when they were bullied. would there be any bullies?

To the first part of your question this would depend on the situation. Although you may not allow that person power over you or over your feelings, potential viewers of the bullying could be affected and feel powerless against the person. Standing up for yourself can mean a lot of things and sometimes not reacting is the only way to stop a bully, but some people don't stop pushing boundaries and with these people you can't give in and have to push back and let them know they cannot do this to you. I think human nature invloves some bullying to a certain degree and it couldn't stop.

It is not in some people's nature to stand up to a bully but yes they gain power over you if you let them. The only other way to attack a bully is verbally bringing them down. There will always be people who are bullies or attempt to be superior.

Yes there would. Once the person being bullied starts to feel more powerful by fighting back, they usually start bullying themselves, so there will never be an end to it.

Very true, people who crave power only do so because they lack power and often hide this weakness with their egos. If everyone stood up and never allowed anyone to put them down then this world would be a much better place.

No it's not true. There still would be bullies because some people can't stand up for themselves, because they are smaller or weaker than the bullies.

there are many different ways a person can be bullied. however, if a person stands up for what they believe is right and does what one feels is the right thing to do then respect seems to follow at least most of the time

I think it is true. power is gained over aggression some times. IF every one wasn't afraid to stand up then there would be no little people in life.

if everyone stood up for themselves and for what is right there wouldnt be a sinle bully in the world but yet ant the same time the world would probably be in total chaos.

You cannot free the world of bullies. Unfortunately, they are here to stay. Society does not have the guts to stand up for itself. The world cannot even pause it its heroic dash of oblivion to look where its going. One thing is possible and that is in your personal life to make sure no one bullies you. "Screw me once shame on me, screw me twice shame on you." So only on an individual level, if you take control, you win.

People gain power of control through manipulation in many cases. Look at domestic violence victims, rape victims, abused children and other type cases. You will notice that the motivation is control and the control is power
