its really hard to explain because it doesnt sound like you have a style of serve and just throw it in the air and hope for the best :-P

forget about throwing yourself forward, that will happen naturally when you get your style right.
Practice serving with whichever foot you have forward, with all the weight on it and have you back leg in the air just off the ground. this will help you get the right technique and weight. it will feel strange and look strange at first.

make sure you toss the ball higher, if the ball goes about 2 meters or more out you have hit it at the wrong time.

When you toss te ball hold it in your finger tips, dont grip it in the palm of your hand,
dont throw the ball up, just extend your arm all the way up in the air so its straight and the ball should go far enough above your head. At first you will feel like your tossing it to high, just practice.

Have you learnt the correct way to stand on the court?
its hard to explain to you without watching you serve to correct what and where you are going wrong.

good luck, do a google search on serving techniques and get some coaching. its worth the money.
