i've been trying to find ANYTHING online about other people who count every color they see. for instance, the living room rug in front of me has 6 different colors in it. the painting behind me has 8 colors in it. everything i see, i count the colors. my siblings do this too, but not as bad as i do...i'm wondering if maybe this is a type of ocd?? i just want to find out if others do this too, and why??? i have pretty severe anxiety, so maybe this is a way to cope? just wondering if anyone has any ideas on this...

Yes, it is a type of OCD. Any type of repetitious behavior that you can't control falls into this category. I count steps, words, letters, and numbers. I never heard of anyone counting colors. That's interesting. What's even more interesting is that your siblings do it to. But here's the good news. If it doesn't affect your daily life in a negative way, then it's okay. We all have "crazy" things that we do. It's all good. Take care and don't worry.
Peace

My Mother in Law counts colors. I find it rather intriguing. You definitely have to have an eye for detail to do something like that. I think its just a quirk..something that you do..and you know you can do it well..so in a way it could be something that is comforting to you. As long as it doesn't rule your life...go for it!
