This book discusses the idea that Muslim headscarves were originally used by Sumerian temple prostitutes to distinguish them from temple priestessess. I can't seem to purchase one! It came out in 2005.

It is more likely that it came from Jewish customs, which Paul also advocated for Christian women in Corinthians 11-6. From ancient times thru the middle ages in many cultures women covered the their heads. Maybe they were all influenced by temple prostitutes. The nuns who taught me in grammar school would not be happy with the idea.
