It's a Compaq (which may explain ALOT right there). It loads very slowly, and the yellow light is constantly flashing on and off during normal use, slowing everything down to a crawl. I have high speed cable, not dial up so why is this happening?

yeah, that is NOT typical of a Compaq. You have a zombie.

A bot has converted your computer to a spam server.

Turn it off, unplug from the Internet!

Then, install http://pclinuxos.com
and never get 'bot'ed or Zombied, again!

I have a compaq i use as a spare and it work's better then my dell.So you must have what they call a lemon.Do you have high speed cable or cable called high speed?There are several program's the isp has speed 1,2,3.I have 2 faster then 1 but slower then 3,so it all depend's on what you have to say high speed.

Computers do that a lot. Most computers must read or write to the hard-drive from time to time. This is only periodically though. If your computer is reading or writing to the hard drive way too much (almost all of the time) it may mean that you are running too many programs and it must keep lots of data in the virtually memory. If it isn't that you might have viruses or spyware which are causing the slowdown.

Your PC is loaded with spyware or malware that use up nternet speed.(e.g.: Generic.IMO)
