First -- it is the fact that we die that makes life so important and meaningful. If we were to live forever, days wouldn't mean anything because we would know that there would never come a time where we wouldn't wake up. We could sleep all day knowing that we wouldn't be wasting time because time itself was infinate. But it is not. We realize that one day we won't be here, so we make an effort to preserve the few days we have, and be productive and make a difference and be happy. If nothing else, we should try to live a life full of happiness!

Sure you could make the argument that our lives are so short in the grand scheme of thing that they don't matter at all, but to humans, a life is the longest thing anyone has ever experienced.

You could also say that if we go to heaven (which I personally don't belive in) then our lives continue forever up there.

Why do you think people have such a hard time dealing with a death? If your life is not important to you, it must still be important to your friends and family, and their lives must be just as important to you. Would you accept if they commited suicide simply because they thought that there was no point in life?

Anyway there is a point to life...to achieve something, to make a difference in the lives of people for decades to come and if nothing else to be happy! Imagine what our world would be like if Einstein gave up on all his studies because he thought that life had no point simply because we are going to die.

If you truly believe what you stated in your question (which I doubt) - that life has no point since we are going to die -- would you protest if someone killed you at this very moment and your life was over? Think about it and I hope you realize what a great blessing being alive truely is.

Well I think life is just a giant joke. In fact sometimes I think it is Hell and when you die is finally Heaven. Not having to put up with all the B.S, every day. I can't wait for it to end. As far as I am concerned life sucks and you can't die soon enough.

Why does everybody ask this question? When you are born until the day you "Die" you should have learned something about yourself and the very world we live in. Once we are born, we see everything. The people in our lives. The deeds that we do compared to the deeds that others do. Some may be better, but some may be worse. And you have to ask yourself, "What course do I take?" The darker, seedier side of life? Or the more brighter, better side of life.

If heaven is as good as they claim, then why would they. Anyway, I think the point is to grow and learn and improve in order to have the best experience we can while here. You're here, so may as well enjoy it. Who knows, it may even end up being a training ground for soul progression or something. The adventure is in not knowing, and how you choose to live.

The point is what you do between birth and death of the body. You are the life of the body. you lived before you had this body and you will live after it is gone. What you do NOW is what determines your NOW in the future. Your body will die but you will continue to BE. You will return but with a different body and personality. History repeats itself until we learn our spiritual lessons.

If you take the viewpoint that we are all going to die, surely the point of life is to do with what we do while we are alive - the impact we make on our environment and the people around us.

Even philosophies that do not believe that life ends with death place importance on what we do while we are alive.

I have a different opinion, I guess. I believe in reincarnation. So, for whatever reason, we chose to be here for this time around. We wanted to check out this place at this time. If your life sucks, change it. It is easier said than done but better than being miserable for another 50 years.

To return the universe to equilibrium.
When you think about it, life is just a bunch of chemical reactions headed in that direction. And matter and antimatter will eventually all collide and even out back to nothing.
