I takje it you bought a right handed bass? Well, if you can learn to play 'right handed' then thats good, but if you can't then see if you can flip iot and reverse the strings. I did that with my guitar, and I'm guessing it would work with a bass. Maybe it will be more comfortable, and it tends to feel more natural. Get some bass tabs, its not hard, and learn one string at a time. Eventually your hand muscles will beocome stronger and you'll develop a feel for it. But you've gotta practice. It's not an overnight thing.

Ok, first of all.......you're going to have to listen to music. A bass guitar has a totally different rhythm than any other instrument...you need to realize this. Try to listen strictly to the bass parts in music. Also notice that in a lot of songs, the bass guitar, and the bass drum are in synch with each other. You're not going to have to worry about chords on a bass. At least not now......that's way later. Anyway, you're going to have to learn how to restring it, to tune it. You'll need to learn the notes on every string on every fret....this will come in handy....trust me. They do have DVDs that are available that can teach you beginning bass. If you don't have an amp, then you'll need one...or preferably a headphone amp.....so you can practice without disturbing others. It's going to take many hours of practice. You dont' want to set your strap too low either, in fact I have mine set where I play the bass very high on my chest....I can reach all of the fretboard with ease, and it's no strain on my other hand. If you can sit down, for at least an hour a day....with a practice DVD......you'd be surprised how quickly you'd improve. Now this won't come over night. It'll take a lot of work and patience. The more you practice, the better you'll be....and the better your ear with develop. Sooner or later you'll be able to play songs right off of the radio or any CD you may have. If you have any more questions....please feel free to send me a message. I've played bass for years........best of luck to you.

if you dont want to take lessons, learn yourself. Go to a website like about or search google for online tutriols. Then you can get bass tabs, at http://www.bassmasta.net/ and learn to read tabs and play them\
