I met a woman from the Philippines that I want to marry. I am a middle class man with many responsiblitys. I cant afford to make many trips to the Philippines. I know that there is a ten day waiting l period after filing for the marriage license. I had heard something about waiting for a month also before getting married. Is this true? Do I have to be there for a month? If someone could clear this up for me I would appreciate it.

You can file for K-1 fiance visa, all you need is to visit her once and show proof ( flight ticket, photo of you and her, hotel receipts )

normally takes 4-8 months after filing for her visa. then she can come here and you will then have 3 months to marry before visa expires.

Check I.N.S. web site for more details.

Try contacting the american embassy in the Philippines for some info. Google the site & e-mail them to ask. Or as someone said, the Philippine consulate. You may have to get something notarized from our embassy there granting permission as well. It's no big deal. You basically fill out a form stating who you are and that you're legally free to marry and they notarize it. That part won't be a problem
Hope it all works out for you. Congratulations & best of luck.
