Nope, Eric, you have the wrong idea here. It's not as if people come up with car names, it's the cars themselves who come up with them. I'll give you two examples.

1) When I bought my Acura Integra, I knew she needed a name. She was great, all right, but she just did not stand out with anything ringing a bell to me. However, all that changed when daylight turned to night, and I flicked on her high beams for the first moment. It was like noon! She had the most awesome headlights (particularly compared to my former car). So her name grew from that moment: Meridiem, which is Latin for noontime. I call her Marie.
2) My Mini Cooper S Convertible was aching for a name. I was so excited for her -- I put a new roof on the garage, got her a garage door AND an electric door opener. I hauled 2 tons of gravel just to refurbish the driveway, all in preparation for the Mini to arrive (I was waiting for her to come off the freighter). And I was being prompted by everyone to name it something like Orchid, based on her color. No, she told me her name, again a night-naming. I picked her up at dusk and on my way home, I turned on her lights and all of a sudden I was surrounded by an awesome haze of orange glow. So I was thinking here I went to all this trouble with Her Highness, making sure her house was a castle, she had that red glow, she was infinitely royal and definitely English ... Ah! Duchess of York! Her nickname is Duchess. I'm thinking of getting a license plate for her with her name.

Anyway, go sit in this car and see what name she/he selects. My dad's Jeep told me one day he was Blake, so I know there are boy cars out there too.
