Absolutely!
I have gotten the most fabulous things from dumpsters.
I've gotten beautiful wicker furniture in perfect condition, about 45 pairs of shoes that I took to a non-profit thrift shop, jewelry, old coins, stereos, etc. It's really fun and clean work if you know how to do it! Do a Google on Dumpster diving and read the how-tos. Great for college people, folks on a tight budget and treasure finders!
