Present technology - look it up on any of the hundreds of websites for video games (I'm partial to ign.com or gamespot.com). In terms of where the future of gaming is headed, well there are a few hundred different schools of thought on the future. Everything is up in the air (to begin with) until a standard for high definition data encryption is established. Sony would have it be the blu-ray, but microsoft is backing the hd-dvd.

The significance behind this??? Google "betamax", and you'll see what I'm talking about. Either standard, however, offer different storage formats to allow for larger game files to be created (better graphics, more content, etc).

I think the future of gaming is online. I have llong thought the future of gaming is online... purchasing game licenses and then downloading relevant content from online...

For example you'd buy the rights to play NBA Live 07 from a store like Best Buy, for the Xbox 360 and then log onto your system's online capibility and download the current "game" content, etc...

Already, Microsoft is doing this with it's xbox-live service to some extent. And, both Nintendo (virtual console) and Sony (playstation) are trying to get online and in synch with this type of capibility... With broadband becoming much cheaper, and cost effective in most cases, it's going to be the wave of the future of video gaming.

The current technology is in the seventh generation, that being the Microsoft Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii, and the Sony PlayStation 3. The 360 has a 3.2 gigahertz processor and uses an ATI Xenos graphics processing unit (GPU). The Nintendo Wii has a 729 MHz processor and a 243 Mhz GPU. The PS3 has a 3.2 Ghz Cell processor and a GPU clocked at 700 MHz.Those are the consoles. In terms of future technology Sony has said,if i remember correctly, there will eventually be a PlayStation 4, but because these three systems are the newest, there really is not talk about future technology in consoles. In terms of discs, the PS3 uses Blu-Ray discs which is a new form of data disc that is read by a blue laser rather than a red laser on traditional DVD which uses a red laser. Blu-Ray is able to store high-definition (HD) media, to show films, or games in HD. The 360 uses dual-layered DVDs. And the Wii uses its own format which I'm not sure of. HD DVD is also a new format of discs that will possibly be used for game storage but not at the moment. That's basically it. If you have more questions, I would recommend going to the individual company's sites and look there.

Wow.. this is a question that requires a loooong answer because there is much to say.

There is three different "mainstream" ways of playing video games. On a computer, on a console and on a portable console.

Computer games are played on any computer that can meet the game's requirement which are usually OS version, CPU & GPU speed, Memory and Disk Space. This media for video games is the one that is the most flexible and most often upgraded. Every week a new computer component upgrade is making it's way in stores all around the world.

Console games, like for the Xbox or Nintendo are a bit more restrictive because when you buy them they have very little options to be upgraded. The companies will release a newer version of their console every 3-4 years, sometimes more. They are popular because you do not need to spend as much as if you buy a computer and they are more user friendly. You open the box, hook'em up to the TV and you're ready to play.

Portable consoles are pretty much like regular consoles but you can carry them with you where ever you go.

As for the technology itself, it all comes down to the development that was made on computers. Consoles apply what was developed for computers in a more compact and more dedicated product, removing the elements that are not needed. The future can lead us on so many different paths that it's hard to tell which tecnology will be the standard in a couple years. One thing is sure though, there will be faster CPUs & GPUs, more and faster RAM(memory) and bigger and faster storage devices.(DVDs, cartriges or Hard drives)

You can find a great deal of info on the subject on Wikipedia.

Loooooong question. Go to Wikipedia and do a search under 'video games'. It will give you all the specs for that. Also, if u r looking for the individual specs of different systems, do searches on the following: 'Wii' 'PS3' 'XBOX 360' 'Nintendo DS' 'PSP'. As far as i'm concerned, Wii is the most innovative, 360 has the best technology for the cheapest price, PS3 is just a bad revamp of PS2, DS is the most innovative handheld, with the touch screen, mic, and battery life, (plus the dual screens), and PSP is the most graphic-efficient one, but with a terrible battery life.

Yeah, well as you probably know the Nintendo and sega systems have a long past. Sega started as big video game boxes where you would see them in Malls and pizza places to their Sega Genesis to their most recent console- Dreamcast. Nintendo went from the Origional Nintendo to Super Nintendo to Nintendo 64 to Gamecube to Wii. I don't know much about future consoles. None of the major game makers have announced future productions yet.
