My mother was gravely ill, and on a respirator. One day, my brother and I received a call from her physician to meet him at the hospital.
We knew that there was a decision to be made about how far to take her care.
The doctor basically told us that there was nothing else they could do for her, but that he did not believe in unplugging someone whose brain was even functioning a little, because it was like letting them suffocate. He told us that the best thing we could probably do was to not put her through the torture of anything else to invasive, but to keep her comfortable, wait for her brain and the rest of her body to shut down, then unplug her from the respirator.
My brother and I knew that to let our mother, who was a devout Christian, pass peacably without anymore invasive procedures was what she would have wanted.
The hardest part was not making the decision, but telling her goodbye, and that it was OK for her to go.
I did not answer this question to get the 10 points, so I don't care if you give them to me. But it is nice to share feelings about things which you have faced that were difficult for you in life.

I had to say good-bye to a friend who I was in-love with at the time in order to save a relationship with my true love.
It was the best thing to do, but it broke my heart to see the hurt in his eyes.
