A RN can be a 2-year degree (Associates degree) or it can be a 4-Year degree (Bachelor's Degree). It used to be about a $10 per hour difference, but I think it depends a lot on the area of the country you live in.

You get a BSN after completing a four year degree in nursing.
However, you will not be allowed to work as a nurse until you have taken and passed your state's licencing exam - NCLEX-RN.
Passing will make you a registered nurse.

If you have a two year degree, you will need to take the NCLEX-PN. This will make you a LPN.
