I am English I was born in England
British means I am either Welsh, Scottish or Irish or an immigrant whereas if I am English I am English
Just to qualify this argument ppl in Hong Kong were given British passports prior to the English giving up part of their empire
Britain is an empire not a country

English is a person born in England, he / she is English and British.
To be British is a person normally born in the UK, but it is also a state of being, very British you know. Stiff upper lip and all that.
Eton, Harrow, the Shires, stupid out of date ideas are frequently associated with British.
Remember though to be English is one thing to be British is another and always capital!!
We have our heritage to remember, what? Always Capital old man, always capital.
Toodle pip.

English.
Great Britain is a socioeconomic conglomeration, put in place for the expansion of empire.
The Irish didnt want us there in the first place, the Welsh want Devolution as do the Scots... i say give it to them and close the borders. dig a canal from tyneside thru to the west coast, and open it as a shipping canal to allow faster access from europe to northern america. place bridges and viaducts (toll of course) and continue to trade.
as for all teh immigrants, well, youu want to be a british citizen with all the advvantages and prsperity it brings... well heres a shovel... two years servitude, which at the end, foreign johnny will be educated and fluent with English culture.
the project should last around 10 15 years... and cost just over 30 quid.. honestly... guys would be turning up at dover with shovels at the ready. we feed them, we train them...and they dig. we get healthy educated fluent workers, they get jobs, they pay taxes..and wer'e a little happier than we were, esp, when you consider theyre getting all teh benefits and doing nothing for it...

So do I, that is because I am English. I do resent, that I am not allowed to put my nationality as English , when completing many `official` forms, I detest having to put British.

Ethnically and culturally, I have nothing in common with the Scots, Irish or Welsh. I therefore consider myself to be English.
