IT's crap. Why not ban the flying of U. S. flags on State house grounds? Its not federal. NCAA stick to sports and stay out of politics.

I think it's none of the NCAA's business to try and dictate terms or behavior to the people of South Carolina just because someone doesn't like the Confederate Flag on the state house grounds. The NCAA should stick to organizing basketball events and stay out of politics. It's bad enough that the NAACP sticks their nose into things that are none of their concern; the NCAA doesn't need to do the same.

Anyone who thinks the Confederate flag is nothing more than a racist symbol needs to do some serious research and stop reading all of the one-sided, bigoted drivel put out by the ACLU and the NAACP. In THIS day and age - not in the 1860's, not in the 1960's, but in THIS YEAR - the vast majority of the people who fly the Confederate Battle Flag do so for several reasons: because we're Southern and proud of it; because this flag is the symbol of our beloved Southland; because we have ancestors who fought and died for the flag; and because we have just as much right to be proud of OUR history, OUR heritage, and OUR ancestors as anyone else.

I'll be the first to say that the Confederate Battle Flag had no place being flown on top of the State House dome, and I was glad to see it moved to a separate pole next to the Confederate monument on the side of the State House. But I absolutely disagree with anyone who says that the flag should be banned completely! Face the facts - once upon a time there was a nation called the Confederate States of America, and people fought and died for that nation. That conflict was the turning point in the shaping of our nation, and to attempt to erase all evidence of it - except for the Union monuments, and anything else that the NAACP or the ACLU say should remain - is an attempt to rewrite American history.

Like it or not, the Confederate Battle Flag is a part of American history. Had the South won, it wouldn't be so, but the South lost, so it's a part of OUR history, both yours and mine - it's a part of ALL American's history, like it or not.

What the flag stood for then and what it stands for now are two different things. It's also a matter of perception and opinion, and just because you have a different perception than mine doesn't mean that YOUR opinion is right and MY opinion is wrong - so DO NOT try to dictate terms based on YOUR opinion to me, lest I shove them back down your throat.

You live YOUR life, and let us Southerners live ours.

And, just for the record, I live in South Carolina, so don't anyone try and tell me to mind my own business - it IS my business!

The Confederate Flag has nothing to do with hate, nor was the Civil War fought solely over slavery. Some people just take pride in the fact that they are from the South. I've never ever heard of it being used as anything racist in the least bit around these parts. It represents Southern culture, and I'm proud the Mississippi flag has the Confederate flag embedded in it.

If this way of thinking keeps on moving across the U.S.A. ,against anuthing that people dont understandb, this country will die from the internal pressure. I agree with you , all flags fought in a war are pride of the ones who fought for it , who are these people to ban something they do not understand and associate this very beautiful flag that should be flown alongside the yankee one ,as the South fought heroically with less men , less resources but more PATRIOTISM!The truth canot be forever banned! That period of war between the states was bnot a war for or against slavery , it was a war fought on both sides of idealism , the North wanted union ,the South wanted independence, this is a historical truth, the blacks much later were drafted sort of for the North and promised their freedom! It was this promise the reason blacks join the war for the North side, the South fought baravely with much less resources! So the confederate flag has the same rights as the yankee flag! I see flags of the world in New York city ,Avenue of the Americas , the missing one is the confederate flag! It is a flag that was fought for , men did for it , it is a symbol of freedom! The blacks did not have it easy up North either, the Ghettos destroyed them! Lincon had slves too as many Northeners! It was not in our time , who are we to ban what men died for or understand the ir reason?

Who knows. Maybe the Confederate Flag is offensive to the majority of basketball players--most people tend to associate the Confederate Flag with backwoods ideology like racism. I know I do.

If more people were educated about what the South stood for besides slavery, maybe it wouldn't be so offensive to everybody (I'm not saying I'm for the South or anything, that's just what I think would help even out the dissention).

The politically correct dictate what negative freedoms we have and whatever freedoms they don't like feel justifying in taking those away legally.

I've never flown a confederate flag and I'm not even sure what it symbolizes but it is a form of freedom of speech and we find more and more that this is taken away from us. Freedom of speech to that radical group scream bloody murder if we try to confine vulgarity, hate speech, lewd and lascivious behavior, behaviors that are offensive to others, mocking Jesus and Christianity.

It is really too much to comprehend. I find it mind baffling!

I disagree that it is treasonous. It is to hide history facts and to please the 15.6% of population that we can forget, but they can't.

I see nothing wrong with flying a Confederate flag. It is part of history people! Burying it will only open more wounds. Many of my relatives died during the Civil War, and they thought they were doing the correct thing in support for that flag.

So, let her fly! It isn't going to hurt anyone!

(OK so maybe you could wet it and hang something or someone with it! Or use in a towel fight and hit somebody in the eye!)

Exactly, it isn't the business of the NCAA to be involved with politics, especially politics it doesn't understand. Even the reasons for banning it is illogical, they should not bow down to PC groups, especially groups like the groups that advocate reverse descrimination like the NAACP.

None of their business.

But flags of the Confederacy should be banned because it represents people treasonous to the United States.

I think it's good unless a confederate team joins the conference.

When did this happen. Guess I need to bring my battle flag to all the college home games next year.
