I've been to both places and felt very safe. Both are also full of tourists and lots of police around too.

They are like anywhere in the world....don't do anything stupid, don't mess with people, don't walk down a dark alley at night etc.

I've been to Malate and walked around at 3am (on the main streets) and have never seen any trouble.

I live in California, when I go to PI I go to the place I call home and that is Angeles City and that applies to my children, grandchildren, family and siblings. I cannot assure that there is no place that guarantee safe nowadays. We as people of common sense apply this in our daily life. I do not know which is safer but I will not allow my grandchildren go to the mall by themselves in Malate, I will allow them however to go to Angeles City Mall.

i know for a fact these 2 places are safe.. it just so happened that malate is in manila and is easily accessible to media so that may be a reason why they say its dangerous since anything untoward can be easily reported by tv stations unlike in angeles city..

but from my experience and from previous news, these places are pretty safe since they are both night spots so lots of police roam the area to maintain peace and order (you know how drunk people act sometimes..)

i can advise you to be alert though just like when you're going to any place and like they always say, dont leave your belongings unattended..

Correction .... more safer is not a correct choice of words. It is redundant superlatives. It is either more safe or simply safer.

I guess if you feel safe in downtown Chicago or New York, you'll even fell safe in those areas.

Mabuhay!

All of the Philippines is at least as safe as any metro area of the US. That said, I feel LESS safe when my wife is driving the car in either country.
