I don't like it.

Part of Dianetics is something called "auditing". This consists of holding 2 tin cans which are connected to a machine capable of detecting changes in the electrical resistance of skin. The person being audited is told to recount negative incidents from this "and past" lives in order to "clear" themselves of the "engrams" associated with these incidents.

In Dianetics and Scientology, an engram is defined as an unconscious, painful memory. It is stored in the stimulus-response unconsciousness (the "reactive mind") rather than as a normal memory.

It could conceivably be classified as a "personal development" book as it claims to be able to assist adherents in becoming "able to function at his or her full potential". Of course, Dianetics mainly exploits the suggestibility of participants, putting them almost into an hypnotic trance, while employing only semi-legitimate forms of psychotherapy. It is NOT a science as it claims and has repeatedly been dismissed as pseudoscience or quackery by distinguished scientists, medical doctors and science historians.

And you're right, Scientology is all about greed and power. Check out how much it costs to purchase "auditing" while moving through all the levels of Scientology: This is how much it costs to involve yourself in their cult:

L. Ron was a sci fi hack that founded a "religion" that is all about the money. Incidentally, the church of scientilogy was responsible for the largest case of espionage against the US in history.

in no way have, yet regularly simply by fact i've got heard his sci-fi is mediocre at terrific. of path, after slogging by using a number of the later Dune books (those by using FH, no longer those by using his newborn...those are particularly particularly solid) i understand that even the terrific author has "off" novels. i would not choose his sci-fi based on the religion he began. Supposedly Orson Scott Card is a LDS homophobe and a particularly spiteful female, yet his Ender's saga books are super.
