Nothing, there is no AMD that really competes. The Athlon FX-62, which is AMDs highest and most expensive, is about on par with the Core 2 Duo E6300, which is the low end of the Core 2 Duos, and costs about a third of the money.

To the above poster, AMD does have dual core processors. They have for awhile. The new Core2Duo's just happen to outperform them.

The Core 2 Duo's all come at different speeds, the same as the AMD X2 processors. To find a rough equivalent, you'd have to pick a speed first.

Edit: Slip's charts are closer to matching processor to performance.

Keep in mind the Core2Duo's on every level mop the floor with the AMD chips, and that if you go any higher it's not even moderately close. It'll all come down to price, how much power do you need? Figure that out, then buy whichever chip is cheapest and will give you that performance.

There is no equivalence to AMD chips. DuoCores act similar to dual processors. A 2.2G Duo has two cores that act similar to two AMD 2200+ chips. A Duo uses one core to operate one set of instructions while the other may run completely different instructions. Dual chips tend to split the work evenly which is why they don't run games well. However with a Duo, one core would run all background programs while the other would run the video game in the forefront. Now we need DuoAMDs.

It depends on which c2d processor you're talking about. I can tell you this, though.. the c2d processors are thrashing amd around right now
Get this, a c2d E6600, which is about $300, can beat an athlon 64 fx-72, which is one of amd's top processors and costs $450.
I'd say a c2d E4300 is about equal to the x2 4200+

before I start, mysticman is very wrong - the FX-62 is on par with the E6600 - not the E6300 - come on man FX is FX -

E6300 >= x2 4600, x2 4200
E6400 >= x2 4800, x2 5000, x2 5200
E6600 >= FX-62
E6700 and X6800 are in a class of their own

cheers
