can someone please give me a LEHMANS explanation into American Football how it works and why the play stops the majority of the time!
also what does it mean when they say 1st and 10 and stuff like that?
im english and ive tried looking at wikipedia but tht seems to explain it in a scientfic term haha!
so if anyone knows a good website or can explain simply plz help! i want to watch the superbowl and try to understand it haha!

1st and 10 means it is your first try to get ten yards which is what you need to get another first down.
If you get 4 yards on first down then it is 2nd and 6 and so on,
you only get 4 downs to make another first down of touchdown.
Touchdown is reaching your opponent end zone and is worth 6 points. A touchdown gives you the right to kick the ball through the goal posts and if this is successful it is worth 1 point a team may also run or pass the ball into the end zone and is worth 2 points. If a team can't get a first down they have the option to either give the ball to the other team through punting it away or if they are close enough they can try a field goal and if this is successful it is worth 3 points. If it is not the ball is given to the opposing team from where the field goal was attempted.
