Not ALL American men are circumcised - I'm not for example. The number usually cited is 75%, but the rate of infant circs is falling fast (currently 50/50, hopefully near zero in five years).
An article by Dr. Dean Edell - http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/408/60750.html - asserts that pleasure for women is greatly reduced when their sexual partner has been circumcised. And that was a big part of the idea back in Victorian times when this barbaric practice became popular in the states - sex was considered dirty, and anything that reduced sexual pleasure for either men or women was considered beneficial. Since then various other myths have arisen - like the untruth that a natural penis is dirty, smelly, and causes disease. Well, men in most of the world manage to keep clean AND stay intact. It's not rocket science.

Where did you get the idea that ALL American men are circumcised? It originally started as a religious thing and some religions still believe in it. However, I think now it has become just the common thing to do. I always swore that I would never do that to any son I ever have. I think it's barbaric and certainly not medically necessary. However, I do know that there is a hygene concern when you don't get it done. I personally know a little boy who didn't get circumcised until at the age of 4 he got a nasty infection which left him no choice. That is what is even more cruel in my opinion. There certainly is a hygene issue where that is concerned and I would rather circumcise a baby than a 4 year old boy or a man.

first of all, not all American men are circumcised, but the majority are, and it is certainly the "standard". My sons were circumcised because the doctor insisted that it was necessary. I have since come to believe that he was wrong. I am not circumcised, and have had no problems because of it. I truly believe that many parents agree to have their sons circumcised because they do not want the responsibility of helping their sons learn to "maintain" an un-cut penis.
Another reason given for circumcising boys is that they will "look like everyone else". While conformity is important to young people, it should not be the most important factor. If the father is uncircumcised, and the son is allowed to see his father naked, then he will possibly not feel so "different" when he is with his peers, who may be circumcised.
It is also important to educate boys who have been circumcised so that they will not think that there is something "wrong" with the penises of boys who have not been cut.

All Americans are NOT circumcised. At the moment, about 65% of infants are circumcised. The percentage was much higher in the 60's (up to 90% in 1968). The number is continuing to decline as parents learn more about this unnecessary operation.

My hubby had to be circumcised in his 30's because of a foreskin problem.
He says that there are obvious differences between before and after, but that's all they are - differences not better or worse. We still have as good a time as ever so I don't believe those men who were circ'ed as babies now saying that it has reduced their pleasure. How would they know anyway??
The benefit for me is that he lasts a little longer than he used to with a foreskin. The benefit for him is that (even though he's a very clean bloke) his penis gets less musky than it used to = many many more bj's. Lucky boy!!!

I think most people (including myself) get their sons circumcised either because it says so in the Bible or because it so widely done that they want their sons to feel like they look like the majority.
How could anyone put blame on their sensual experience or a painful erection due to their circumcision since they would not be able to remember what they felt like when they were a baby?

First, NOT all American men are circumcised. Secondly, they probably had little choice if they are because it is usually done right after birth.

Hygeine apparently (or religion for some). I have a baby on the way and can assure you I ill not be havbing the poor thing done if it's a boy - I don't think anyone has any right to make that sort of decision for someone else.
