Would you change your race?

Question

I was talking to this girl yesterday in one of my college classes and she told me she wished sometimes that she could be white. I mean seriously. I thought she was crazy but maybe I'm wrong. I am wondering if you could change your race would you, to what race, and why? why?why?????????

Nope.. Never. Say it loud, I'm black & Im proud!!! For real though, I know that balck people sometimes endure hardships because of our race, but we need to realize other races go through crap too.. like when someone white hangs out/grows up with blacks they are called names & told they are "acting black".. when they are just acting what is normal to them, the culture they grew up in. There are stereotypes & pigeonholds in every race. And its okay to be proud of whatever race you may be. As long as you don't harbor hatred for others because they are a diffent color than you, it's all good. Tell your friend to be proud of who she is. We have had too much struggle in out history for her to deny herself of that!

Changing your race would not solve anything. If your black and you change to white your still going to face problems. I think there are different races on this planet so that we can apprepricate our differences. Certain races are better in some areas than other races but no race should think that they are superior because at the end of the day we are still the same people. Everyone regardless of race goes to work and tries to support their family. No matter what race you are you still feel hungry, sad, catch any diesease, die from car accident, etc. Theres no one race that is immune to negativity. So while you might face less racism being one race, you might be blamed for a lot of the racism when you have nothing to do with it.

I can't think of any reason why anyone would want to be white unless they thought that life in general would be easier because of racism issues. I'm white and I'd never want to change because it's all I've even known but I might enjoy being more Mediterranean looking if I had the chance. I'd like slightly darker skin just so I didn't have to deal with sunburns as often. I'm not sure if that's really a change of race, just more that I wished I had a natural tan and I think Mediterranean girls look really good. I think even the slightest racial discrimination would seem like a huge deal to me if I changed races over night because I'm not used to it. I'd probably be unhappy. I'm fine the way I am.

I am black and yes I would change my race. I enjoy being a woman just being black has always been an unsettling experience for me. I know my spirit was/is high quality, and I could have been born any race of my choosing, but I have come to the conclusion, after several years of thinking about this, that the only reason I chose to be black was to experience the beauty of my mother who is black. She is the only thing good about my life and is the essence of the highest form of motherhood. I think my spirit knew exactly what I signed up for so that I could be with her. That only reason why I would have been born black because I just don't really have a connection or attraction to my race in any other way. I love being a woman though. But I often pray I would never have any black ancestry in my next life. That could mean parting ways with my mother's spirit, and as devastating as that would be to me, I just couldn't imagine being born black again in my next journey. So that would be a huge sacrifice for me.

This is a very good question. I think it depends on the duration. forever Hell to the no. I think that black is one of the most unique and strongest races in the world. We have to deal with sooo much but still I'd rather not have everything given to me and enjoy what I've worked hard for. I think it would be eyeopening to try it for a week because I feel there is no better way to know about a culture than to walk in their shoes. But, definitely not for a lifetime. Black is and will always be beautiful. Whether other ethnicities see it or not.

I think that it would be cool to change my race to black, just so the mistake (it says that my mom is black instead of white) on my mom's birth certificate would not be a problem. I got laughed at a lot when filling out HUD paperwork that required my mom's & dad's birth certificates. I had to have my mom personally explain the mistake to the HUD people (who were black, just so you know). This may sound like a lame reason, but I had to deal with HUD for several years. To make matters worse, my black friends told me that my baby girl looked like a black baby. At age 9, she is fairer complected than either me or her father. But, as an infant, she did look like a black baby. Strange, huh?

I think you should not be proud or ashamed. Both are probably wrong. But you should feel good about what race you are. You should feel good. If you don't, fix it!

Race should not stop you from being who you want to be. It is easy to loose sight of how little this matters and use race to prop you up, or as an excuse for failure. Aren't they both wrong? Don't you want to be right-on, no props and no excuses.

Love yourself, and it's easier to do this when you love others.

i have seen some advantages to being white- its all kind of messed up when i think about it. At the age of 23 and being a woman of color i would not change it for the world. i have learned to love who i am, and regardless of anything people may think if you want anything bad enough you can get it no matter what color you are

I would like to experience being a white man for one week straight. I would want to see how accurate or false stereotypes about them really are. For instance, do they get lower interest rates, do raises on jobs come easier, talk their way out of speeding tickets, not get stared at by police or in a store, believe everything taught to them in history is true, feeling about minorities dating white women, be able to walk, talk, think, and act how you want with fewer consequences.

Its actually a tough question to answer.
