It's a little known fact that in 1979 a law was passed in the 24th hour that allowed big macs to be used as a form of American currency. Now this is just like a stock, when it says the face value is extrememly low that doesn't mean that's how much your stock is worth. The current price of a big mac is 2.19 +tax, but the value if you were to transfer it to USD at any major cash transfer place would be roughly .19 cents.

The American economy isn't affected by McDonalds specifically. McDonalds Big Macs have been used to value the US American dollar in Economic Magazines and books however.

Although McDonalds makes millions and millions, they only represent a very small fraction of the US economy.
