I have a Betta (siamese fighing fish) and I keep him in a 2.5 gallon heated tank by himself. I was out of town over the weekend and when I came back he seemed to be having problems swimming, if he's not actively moving he sinks to the bottom of the tank. He's still active, eats, and reacts when he sees me, and hasn't turned gray or anything, so I don't think he's terribly sick or dying, doesn't have any external signs of infection. He just sinks. Does anyone know what's wrong with him and if I can do anything to make him better?

Sounds like swim bladder disease. Feed him the inside(remove the shell) of a cooked pea every day until he gets better.

we've a fish that I gained from a honest we've had it approximately 2 years and it began swimming oddly, as though it grow to be packed with air and could no longer swim down, I asked a pal who has stored fish for a protracted time as i grow to be somewhat linked to my little goldfish and that they mentioned that it grow to be constipated and mandatory vegetables!! stunning i presumed yet gave it a attempt, after my Sunday lunch I threw in a backyard pea mushed up and the fish ate it which stunned me, interior of an hour a huge poo grow to be trailing it approximately and it grow to be swimming regularly, this grow to be a while in the past and my little fish continues to be swimming approximately thankfully, I supply him a pea each and every couple of weeks and he loves them, it extremely is properly worth a attempt!!;))

i don't think anything is wrong with him -- he is just hanging out. you can try redecorating his tank, using a mirror to exercise him or something but sometimes bettas just like to hang out just like anything else. they aren't the most active animals. you might want to try more protein in his diet like frozen bloodworms. that perks mine up.

if he has swim bladder they usually swim sideways and don't sink -- he should be a little swollen there. was someone feeding him while you were away? they might have overfed him or something.

try changing the water too -- or giving him some melafix or bettafix.

I have a betta also but he was doing that once to me too. Do you use distilled water for your tank? If you don't I have to tell you it makes a huge difference and really helps make them healthier. If you do use distilled water they should be ok but check your water because tap water can have chemicals and chlorine. Other than that I don't know!!!! I hope I can help you!
