Desktops are always better, but lugging around a brick and a tv are no fun, so it depends on your usage.

Laptops are portable and don't need to be tethered to a wall at the price of short battery life and not as many features as desktops.

i've used computers all the way up to mainframes and down to dummy terminals now for about 25 years. when i got my first home system, i purchased a laptop. little did i know that i'd never take it with me anywhere other than to show it off to one of my associates! it wasn't worth the extra money i paid for it.

i like having a desktop because it is faster and more expandable. i also have a laptop for business only. i don't ever use it on my wireless network. the other reason i have it is just in case my assistant needs one when i am working on the desktop: she is not computer literate, so i administered a limited user account in windows xp for her. suits her, suits me, so just get what suits YOU.

there basically the same, desktop is usually cheaper, and can be upgraded easier. Laps are good for portability, more expensive though, and harder to upgrade, sometimes may not have as much storage space
