If a gallon of H2.O weighs 10.lbs could you please tell me what the respective element weights and quantities are to make up one gallon

Density of water = 1 kg/L

1 lb = 454 g
1 gal = 4.55 L

Therefore 10lbs does roughly equal 1 gallon

Anyway, there are 2 atoms of hydrogen to every one atom of oxygen

O = 16 g/mol
H = 2 x 1 g/mol

Water weighs 18 g/mol

Therefore H accounts for 1/8 the mass

ie 1.25 lbs

and oxygen the remainder

ie 8.75 lbs

Out of interest, why are you doing it in gallons and lbs anyway - usual scientific units (ie SI) are L (or dm^3) and kg

if a gallon of H2O weighs 10 pounds there's someting in it besides water. regardless of that, yes a water is 2 parts hydrogen and one oxygen. weightwise however it is 80% oxygen and 20% hydrogen or 8 pounds O and 2 Pounds H. please don't ask me a specific molecule count as I've run out of fingers.

well i cant but i can guess if you mean molecular weight think that hydrogen weighs only one and oxygen weighs 8
