I don't have a lot of money to have a melody made or put sound to my lyrics. Has anyone had any experience with that?

There are TONS of ways to write songs, but this is how I do it. You're gonna start your song writing with a guitar, or piano, and write a "riff". A riff is the main musical phrase of a song. You use that riff in different chord combinations, and eventually turn it into the main background of song. Once you have your riff down, and you can hear it in the background of your head, hum the first melody that comes to your mind. It's very easy to get different melodies and to develop them. Once you have the "riff" and melody, try to combine in into either your verse or chorus, and try filling in the words to your melody. Songwriting is very hard to explain, and that's the best I can do...ask me more if you're unsure of anything I've said...

And as for getting your work noticed...well on a small level, just show your friends the lyrics and maybe even sing it for them to see what they think. If you are talking on a record level of notice, I don't really know much about that other than just playing at clubs or for large crowds.

Wait just a second. You wrote a song but you don't have a melody. How can you possibly have done that? If it's just lyrics then you wrote poetry.

But if you do have the music then I'd start playing them, start with little gigs and hopefully get noticed. It's probably the hardest thing to do in the music business.
