running the following program will give you a rundown of each item of hardware in your computer:
• click the 'start' button
• click 'run'
• type dxdiag
• click 'ok'

when the 'directx diagnostic tool' window appears, you will see on the 'system' tab the details of your pc including processor speed, and amount of memory. the other tabs in that window give you information about soundcards, graphics cards, network cards etc.

to find out how far you could upgrade your computer in terms of hardware you will need to find out the make and model of your motherboard, then visit the manufacturers website to find out what the maximum amount of ram (memory) or processor speed is that your motherboard can handle.

Click Start Button, Then the Run.
Type in msinfo32, then hit the enter button.

dxdiag is a directx diagnostic tool that displays similar data.
msinfo32 covers a much broader area.

i have gone to www.crucial.com, which is a memory site, and they have a program there that will run a scan on your system and then tell you how much you have, what type of ram, and, how much you can add to your system. it tells you the major upgrades for your system.
