Does anyone know if any of the Babylon 5 movies were any good? They have a bunch of them on Netflix:

Babylon 5: In the Beginning (1998)
Babylon 5: The River of Souls (1998)
Babylon 5: A Call to Arms (1999)
Babylon 5: Thirdspace (1998)
Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers (2002)

I loved the TV show when it first came out so I'm curious about these movies...

1. THE GATHERING - The series pilot... It's best to see this one before watching Season One but it's fine if you catch it anytime. In fact this one is worth viewing again after watching seasons 1-3 to catch A LOT of foreshadowing. When you watch the pilot...you will understand the storytelling genius of JMS...he hints at things that will come to pass for the next four years...and this done a year before...they gotthe go ahead to do the series...talk about focus and follow through...whew!!!

2. IN THE BEGINNING -enjoy this this one without ever seeing one episode of Babylon 5 . Delenn and Sheridan feature prominently along with a certain hair tweaked Ambassador now Emperor...great story...Also, this one features Chris Franke's magnificent score.

3. THIRDSPACE - Here...JMS channels HPLovecraft...Catch this one after about the 7 episode in Season 4. One of my favorites...especially because Lyta Alexander is my favorite B-5 actor...totally insane... with a girl fight at the end that is well worth seeing.

4. RIVER OF SOULS - A story about the Soul Hunters (introduced early in Season One). . Watch this before the last episode of Season 5 (Sleeping In Light). This one focuses more on some of the peripheral characters like Lochley and Zach which makes for a nice change IMHO. Also, another series regular has a terrific performance at the climax that should not be missed.

5. CALL TO ARMS - This is meant to serve as the transition to JMS's next Babylon 5 series: CRUSADE. there are some new and interesting characters many which become part of the Crusade series...that still make this one worth watching. Peter Woodward and Tony Todd really shine in this one.

6) Legend of the Rangers...only G'kar is familiar here...sothe Rangers are given a chance to show their stuff for this story is of these unsung heroes...a very guilty pleasure for me...and the space mine sequence brings a smile to my face...how strange indeed is the mind of JM Straczynski...and how sad I am that series has now...like Sheridan...passed beyond the veil...into sci fi legend.

From one B-5 fan...to the other...And as Sheridan would say...

"May the gods stand between you and harm...in all the empty places where you must walk..."

Peace.

The movies weren't all that good.

I'd rather just watch the last few episodes of the 3rd season and pretty much all of the 4th season.

Babylon 5 had the best story arcs I've seen in sci-fi.

I have to agree with Rose D's answer, but would myself prefer to have "In The beginning" as number one. But if you don't want those spoilers, the list above me is the one recommended :)
