I work in Minnesota. And since November my employer has been messing around with the way he pays me because he was audited by the state for not paying me properly. Because of that he gave me a raise and benifits during a meeting with him (at that time he gave me a good review). After that I worked harder and did all my job. But suddenly, without warning he moved me to part time and took away all my benifits, the odd thing is that he never gave a warning but said he did it because of a bad market. Now im stuck in a financial nightmare. Is it legal for him to do that???

Well, you basically have two choices.

1) Find another full time job with benefits.

2) Talk to a lawyer who specializes in employer/worker relations.

Personally, I would lean towards the first...

Your boss is an asshole. First of all in a bad market they think employees can take the hit easier than the big guy on top? They get away with this because employees put up with it. I would leave that place, but before you do, call a lawyer and get an hour free consultation. I'm not sure if you can sue him, but call a lawyer instead of relying on the answers you get here.

No that doesn't sound very legal. I would say its time to start looking for a new job. Your boss is going to get in big trouble soon and you don't want to be there when it happens. You might consider reporting him to the Better Business Bureau while you're at it.

I'm not certain about MN law, so I have to recommend checking with the state employment office.

However, most employment here in the U.S. is done on an "at-will" basis, which means they can fire you or reduce your hours whenever they feel it's appropriate.

I'd look for a new job.

I am not and expert on the matter but I do not think that he can do this.
If you can aford it seek legal councel, because they can tell you your rights.
But I am fairly sure that he cannot do this legaly without first getting with you first.

You might want to be considering starting a business of your own, part-time.
