you need to know how far it has gone in what amount of time, if based on constant speed, that is velocity, like miles per hour, or feet per second

You need just two things: (1) How long has the car been traveling, and (2) how far did it go? And use an apostrophe when you refer to a car's velocity.

What kind of course are you in?

If your in Calculus, you differentiate the position function and, bam! velocity
