The states and federal government are TIRED of people not paying for their kids… that’s why they passed all of these new laws. EVERYONE is tired of the deadbeats.
EVERY state is different (slightly) with child support guidelines. So its best to check the links below to find out your states details; just click on your state and find the section you need. One link is for a child support calculator; just click on your state and fill it in. the amount it will give you is a general amount as to what you will be ordered.
1) contact your child support caseworker ask for an enforcement hearing or warrant to be issued
4) if the CS caseworker or dept isnt on the ball, contact your Regional Federal Child Support Office (links below), that should put some heat on the case. Never a phone call, always WRITE them (always fax for its proof it was sent/received, thus they HAVE to address it) to the director. The director of the office contact info (addy, fax and phone) is right on the webpage. In your letter, give your contact info, case number and tell briefly what the problem is, and ask what they can do about it. Heat on your case can be a good thing.
5) In some states it’s the Attorney General who you would fax also, for they handle deadbeats. Just go to your states website and find the attorney general info. Some list the fax number, some you have to call yourself.
7) you can have his/her property attached, and in some cases, forced to sell it.
9) Today, it is now a federal offense to run across state lines to avoid child support. They have federal warrants they issue for these guys.
11) The states today take the deadbeats license away; suspend it. call your caseworker and ask how to do it or if they handle that.
12) The states today have tax refund intercept; state and federal on any refunds the deadbeat gets is taken, and funds sent to her. You will need to confirm if a tax refund intercept is in place or not; call your caseworker and ask if it is. The deadbeats tax refunds are taken, then reissued to you.
14) Today, child support arrears are reported on the deadbeats credit report (when it hits a certain amount). Call the caseworker and ask if it has been submitted
15) Most states have a automatic cost of living raise in child support every 2 or 4 years.
16) Post the deadbeats pic online at deadbeat sites; some states already do this, some do not. but you can submit to a couple I’ve listed below.
17) You could try one of those private collection places (supportkids.com). Yes, they charge a % , in other words, it beats nothing.
19) When the deadbeat is thrown in jail or warrant issued and then thrown in jail. They do the good ol sack lift and cheek spread for the free search. They stay until they cough up a chunk of cash.
21) Deadbeats only think of themselves; they don’t realize its hard on everyone involved; them, the ex, the children, the new wife/family.
22) Most try to get custody rather then pay support. But when they don’t get custody, most of the time these sorts of people don’t even bother climbing into the truck to come for their visitation.
In my case, we go through 1 gallon of milk a day; that’s $3.50 x 30… its almost $100 per month… AND THAT’S JUST MILK.
