I am aware of some REITs that have gone public in the past year. Vestin Mortgage in Las Vegas has two listed on NASDAQ. VRTA is Vestin Fund I and VRTB is Vestin Fund II. Both are trading at a discount.
Companies going public have brokers and institutional investors lined up before letting the general public know of a coming IPO.
