We need to repeal DOMA before any efforts to forward Legalizing of Gay Marriages can actually have a lasting effect?
For those of you who don't know what DOMA is: DOMA
(Defense Of Marriage Act) Signed into law by (TurnCoat WIlly) Clinton on September 21, 2001
http://uspolitics.about.com/od/gaymarriage/a/DOMA.htm
This means NO state legalized same sex marriages will ever be recognized by our Federal Government.
This MUST be Repealed NOW.

DO NOT CONFUSE LEGAL MARRIAGE AND RELIGIOUS MARRIAGE!
DOMA IS this confussion and I find it offencive to my religious beliefs!
DOMA is one of many 'first steps" toward THEOCRACY!
A dangerous territory!

I agree with that. How do you suggest we start? I'd love to help all I can. I have written to my reps and am waiting to write to a senator a few weeks because he has a few other issues. You are 100% correct.

Clinton signed it??? Oh well, as long as we can repeal it, it's fine. You know that the husband of the famous gay ex-congressman that recently deid in Massachusetts now can't get his pension and is barely living now, right? (to all of the people who think DOMA is good) I would think twice before saying destroying gay widows'/widowers' lives is healthy for America just because they are gay.

sorry, I know little of what is in place in the american system...but you do have your work cut out for you...just remember what Margaret Mead said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.".....
We all know that this will happen..gay marriage will be legalized in the US....it's just the when that's not known.

Actually, it's pretty unlikely we will repeal DOMA soon.
It's more likely that a judge will rule and the appeals court will uphold that gays deserve 'equal protection under the law' and that the full faith and credit clause means that states are obliged to honor gay marriages, even in they don't grant them.
Eventually someone will sue the feds for full rights, and win.
But things could change, until then, there's Canada, the UK and Belgium, Denmark, South Africa, Sweden, France, and Spain.

according to your link the 2001 date is when. it seems there misinformation. i'll research in a bit. it seems we had a war over state rights long ago. now they are pushing for state rights when it suits them, meaning when they can't change or ban an issue on the stae level. same sex union has been one. marijuana is one the feds fight. smoking is another and a new rpub plan is states outlawing abortion. seems you want to fight wrong enemy. repubs are behind most of the same sex marriage bans, smoking, marijuana and the next attempt ,abortion. i favor the rights of gays, lesbian and bis. if you want it repealed, fight the right enemy and seek allies in other groups fighting for their rights. smokers and the overwieght. research more, you never know what else was on that bill and that have been a minor issue when passed. about.com is a bad source for real info.
edit. itchy crack. should we ban or dissolve marriages of the infertile or those that choose not to have kids?

That sucks. Heard of it before but didn't know Slick Willy signed it in.
I still hate hippies:
The date signing was wrong: September 21, 1996, not 2001. Billy signed it.

Thanks for pointing this little interesting fact out to many people who aren't aware of its existence. The Federal government will not recognize gays as couples for federal tax purposes, etc. because of it.

well first of all id like to state that im not against gay ppl but i agree with clinton on this one just because i beleive its against nature if it would have been intended for women to get married to women there wouldnt have been men in the world. i dont believe in being born gay, i think its a choice, if you chose to be that way then deal with the consequences of your actions...
oh and i've heard of gays sueing churches for not wanting to marry them, whats up with that, first off all you cant sue a church its against the first amendment it clearly states " Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press or the right of the ppl to peaceably assemle, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
i hope you do petition and hope everything turns out alright.
