The first thing I'd do is make sure your putting it in the DVD drive, and make sure you do have a DVD drive. Not calling you stupid, just saying we all have dumb moments (I thought I had a CD burner for quite a while).

your computer probably can't handle all the space it takes up. you should try using a DVD player instead of a computer. you can also get a CD and install it to your computer to get it to let you play movies. you can purchase them from BestBuy, Circet City, etc.

depends on your system... how much ram do you have?
if you don't have enough, the system is being overworked by the request to play or burn a dvd..

You may not have enough memory.
Goto:
Run and enter "msconfig" goto startup and uncheck all the programs you dont need at boot and it will free more extended memory for playing DVD's

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
