The difference in size between the Nano and the Video is the result of the different storage formats (hard-drives like your computer uses vs. flash memory like a USB flash drive uses), the larger screen size offered to the video-capable Video, and probably also a larger battery that would be required to power the moving parts in the hard-drive (where the flash versions have no moving parts except the user-operated parts on the click wheel). Aside from those three components, there shouldn't be any significant difference in the rest of the design, particularly in the audio components.

As for the difference in capacity with the same size player, all they do is put a smaller flash drive inside the small- and mid-size Nanos, but they base the size of the overall system on the space needed for the largest Nano design. The only models they currently sell which should be as compact as they could make them are the new Shuffle, the 8GB Nano, and the 80GB Video.5 (they managed to squeeze 80GB into the old 60GB Video case, but the 30GB stayed the same size and capacity as before, which means they probably could have bumped it up to 40GB or reduced the overall size a tiny bit).

The memory is determined by the storage capacity of the flash disk, here are some examples: http://sandisk.com/Products/Catalog(1131)-SanDisk_miniSD_Cards.aspx . Note some of the pictures might seem a few pixels larger than others, but they are all the same dimensions. So the size of the iPod doesn't have to be bigger to support more memory. It's like the memory sticks in the computer, they come in different Mb's, but they are all the same dimensions.

I don't know about sound quality on iPods, I use the generic mp3 players, but just wanted to point out how the memory works.

no there isnt all thats different between a nano and a 20gig is that the memory is bigger and that the 20 gig can play music videos and movies while the nano cant! sound quality is the same and its very good! theres different chips for different ipods allowing them to have the memory amount!

Older ipods have better sounds. But no difference with a 20gb,60 gb, nano or shuffle

there is absolutly no difference in depending on the ipod you buy. The earbuds that come with the ipod absolutly suck. If your main concern is sound quality i would buy the nano and spend the extra $100 you save on nice headphones/earbuds. I have the bose earbuds and i absolutly love them.. They are super comfortable in my ears and the sound quality is great.

Not at all. The sound quality is exactly the same. The file compression (from wav to mp4 format) dictates the sound quality, the larger capacity has nothing to do with it whatsoever.
