which of course just makes it worse. Is this normal, and is there anything I can do. I know I know if it persists, I will call my doctor, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has gone through this and how they handeled it.

welcome to the first trimester blues. Tiredness and insomnia is common. Try Loooooonnnnng baths and showers right before going to bed. I know its hard but this to shall pass.

yes this is very normal. i went through this too. CHances are you will go through spurts, for example in a week or two you will probably want to slee p all the time as everything starts kicking in then you will have more energy in your second trimester but you will start to have a belly which makes it hard to sleep then you will get to you r third trimester and you can just forget about sleep! I dont really have an answer to make it better though, im still trying to find a solution and i am almost 34 weeks. good luck.

Yes, I had insomnia during my first trimester, also.
Could be all the hormones. I would avoid ALL caffiene (very bad for baby anyway) and try to relax around bed time, get into a routine.

I am starting my third trimester now, and sleep much better, except when the pain in my hip joints (unusual) keeps me awake.

Other than that, I ocassionally take just one Benadryl dye-free allergy (dipenhydramine) which is the same ingredient that's the sleep aid in Tylenol PM. It is considered very safe in pregnancy.

I try to only take it when I am desperate, however.

I'm 12 wks. and I had a hard time of sleeping at first where i was just so drained yet i couldn't sleep and I don't drink soft drinks at all right now can't stand the smell, taste or sight of them so i drink water and milk. I just started to go to my room and close the door and blinds and turned off the tv and just lay there with my eyes closed. I don't really sleep when i do that but i do feel better afterwards.

That sounds like me. I am incredibly tired all day and when its time to go to bed, I just toss and turn. Its normal, your body changing and may be having racing thoughts. The only thing I can do that slightly helps is journaling before I go to bed, to get some thoughts out. I try drinking some hot chamomile and peppermint tea. Lastly, I try to make myself as comfy as possible, soft soft blankets, perfect pillows. I sleep with a body pillow between my legs on my side.

My ob/gyn told me I could take Tylenol pm or benedryl because they both contain the same thing which helps you sleep. If you have any questions call your doctor to confirm.
Good luck

I couldn't sleep when I was pregnant either and I was always so uncomfortable. My ob/gyn told me to take Tylenol PM because tylenol is safe during pregnancy. Good Luck.
