if its on a public show some manufactuers may not want their name to be seen.......maybe

If a peformance is sponsored by, say, Yamaha and the keyboardist has R O L A N D emblazened all over it, then they'd ask to cover that up.

Probably because that manufacturer may refuse to sponsor that musician....or maybe even simply the musician doesn't wish to provide free advertisement for that manufacturer.

If they won't sponsor you, but you still use their equipment, why give them free advertising? Also, if you have a certain sound and don't want it copied easily, you would try to not allow anyone to see what you are playing.
