I kinda like it but it is very confusing. It's hard to tell what actually happened and what was imagined by him.

It's a wonderful book. It's not pointless at all... he wants to be the catcher in the rye, keeping children from falling off the cliff and out of innocence. Plus, it's really funny. Salinger is a strange duck though, and I have to admit he's probably a misogynist.

It's kind of scary to admit, but when I finished the book, I found that Holden was a lot like me. I read it in my junior year of high school and it was hard for me to read. He and I are both more scared of life than death and we care for our family more than anything, despute the way we act. It's a beautiful book and if you like Catcher in the Rye, I suggest you read "The Giver" "Gathering blue" and "messanger" in that order. All three are by Lois Lowry.

While I didn't dislike it, I certainly think it is terribly overrated. I wasn't bored and I didn't find it pointless, but I don't think it deserves all the praise that is heaped upon it generation after generation.
Holden is a bit of a worry, but a terrific character

I absolutely love Catcher. It captures so many emotions and ideas in a way that is so subtle, so you don't feel like it's over done, it just resonates.
We've all known a Holden or been one at times.

i loved that book too. people shouldnt expect the book to be so lively and full of adventure and up to par with what we read today since it was written in the early 50's. But if you ask me, I thought it was a d.a.m.n good book!

I love it! I didn't read it until my senior year of college a few months ago, but it became one of my favorites and I read it in pretty much one sitting.

I hated it. I know it was intended to be rife with teenage confusion, but it was worse than A Separate Peace.
Holden was so stupid, and good god, ironic, not ******* ironical.
