It's too early to be that definitive. But, I'll tell you who the 2 teams will be; Phillies and Boston.
Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins spoke to AP as reported by AP Sports Writer Rob Maadi, on Tuesday claiming “I think we are the team to beat in the NL East — finally,” although he qualifies the statement as “only on paper.”
Frankly, I’ve gotta agree about the Phillies chances to reach the post-season and maybe more — the oft-hoped for 2007 World Series date with Curt Schilling and those Boston Red Sox.

The St. Louis Cardinals again. Why? ...because they dont spend millions for the "hot" free agent. They picked up players like Jeff Weaver, Scott Spiezio, David Eckstien, Ya Molina, Chris Duncan, Adam Weinwright, Preston Wilson, Ronnie Belliard, So Taguchi, etc.. off the scrapheap last year and won the World Series! They didnt take their stock portfolios & heavy wallets on the field. They played the game as it was meant to be - with heart, courage, & team chemistry. The Mets & Yankees had a clubhouse full of selfish all-star multi-millionaire EGOs and got whipped by a TEAM of unknowns who PLAYED TOGETHER as a TEAM! Too bad the big spender teams didnt learn from the WORLD CHAMPION St. LOUIS CARDINALS. - The fans wind up paying for the multi-million dollar superstars in ticket prices too!

Still a little early as many lineups are not settled in and there are several free agents out there still unsigned who'll be starters for somebody by the time the season opens.
Last year I picked the Cardinals vrs WhiteSox. Got half of it right :) Would have NEVER picked the Tigers. They really surprised me last year. Even late in the year I was predicting collapse for them and they almost didn't make the post season at all but rallied at the last minute to go all the way to the series.
This year is more difficult as the AL East's rotations except for Boston are in flux. The Yankees should cruise to the AL East title but the Jays, O's and Rays might come up big as they've spent time developing young pitching and 07 is when it'll start paying off I think. The Redsox had an expensive and disasterous off season so far. They have gotten older and lost ground on the rest of the AL East. They will be plagued by injuries again this year and club house discension. Not going to be a good year for Boston fans.
The Central is the WhiteSox's for the taking. Last year they proved incapable and have not improved in the off season. So I'm going to go with the Indians in the AL Central. They played way below expectations last year and have some youngsters that are going to get noticed this year. It won't be an easy race. The Twins always find a way. They have two strong starters. If they hadn't lost the third to injury it'd been the Twins in the WS not the Tigers. A healthy rotation makes the Twins the favorite for the wildcard. The Tigers got career years out of quite a few players. Though you can never underestimate the value of having Pudge on your team. Just having him on your team is almost like doubling your talent level. So the Tigers will be in the mix. They hurt themselves in the offseason. Injuries will be a problem. It's a let down year after the success of 06.
The West is anybodies guess. The Rangers once they ditch Showalter will improve dramatically but lack the pitching. In the AL West a team can survive with weak pitching though. The A's refuse to build but often over achieve. The Angels are trying, though many of their moves have not made good baseball sense. So I wouldn't count the Angels out. On paper they probably have the strongest team in the AL West. Mathews will be hurt and or a huge flop. Vlad gets a year older and still has no protection. The rest of the team is young or ancient.
So I'll go with the Indians going all the way this year unless the Yankees develop a good young starting pitcher. If they do the Yankees will roll into the WS. The Twins are the third most likely in my opinion. The Jays are going to be very improved this year as well.
The NL East is very competitive. All of the teamsthere have made the same mistakes and good moves. The Mets are ancient and will again have tons of injury problems. They do have a potent team when it's mostly healthy. They also have had excellent luck in finding rookies to fill holes. The Mets would have been better off purging the vets last year and going with a youth movement. Less frustration that way and much greater long term success. The Phillies have too many KOs in the lineup. They'll pound you on one day then set records for KOs in a game the next. The big liability is the starting pitching. Even if the Phills make the post season they'll be an easy victim for a team with good pitching. The Braves seem to have given up. They still have a very talented team but appear to want to disasemble it. The youth movement is paying off dividends but the starters are aged and injury prone. The holes too big. So no WS for the Braves this year. The Nationals are hurting for arms and that will do them in. The Marlins are going to go all the way sometime in the next few years if they don't disband the team they've built. This year, probably not but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Marlins win the NL East.
The NL West is almost as bad as the AL West. The Giants lack even a ghost of pitching and seem to want to add Barry Trouble back in the mix in 07. The Dodgers are trying but still have some major holes. They are much better than the 06 Dodgers and have some youngsters that will make some noise. In the end it's pitching that will fell the Dodgers. The Padres are in for another up and down season. Uniting the Giles brothers might be a stroke of genius. Peavey might win a Cy Young. The rest of the rotation looks good with potential to be downright wicked. So it's up to the youngsters. If they come up big so do the Padres. If they struggle so will the Padres.
Last year the Astro's were one of the biggest underachievers in the game. This year they are minus half their rotation. They have an excllent starting 9 and Biggio should get his 3,000th hit. Except for Oswalt the rotation is suspect. Unless Wandy comes up big the Stro's are going to be hamstrung by starting pitching. Lidge's meltdown last year leaves the bullpen in chaos as well. The Cubs are hurting all over the place. The Reds not much better. The Cards havn't assembled their rotation yet so not sure what to expect out of them. They will be competitive and should win the NL Central. Hard to win the WS two years in a row and I think the change in SP will unseat the Cards this year.
If the Cards get pitching it'll be hard not to pick them for the WS in 07. I think the Padres want it more and will barely squeak into the playoffs, but once in I think they'll upset the Cardinals and go to the WS. Cardinals who I think are second most likely to go to the WS and Astros third.
So most likely matchup as stands right now. With lots of potential changes is Indians and Padres. Both are kind of surprise picks this year. So are most of the second most likely. Except for the Yankees who lack only a good young starting pitcher and some youth to offset the injuries that come with a team as old as the Yankees, the Yankees are a fairly strong team. Injury and age will be their undoing as stands right now. If the Yankees get there, the Padres have little chance.

I would have to say the Phillies or the Yankees. I don't see how the Card's would win again. The Phillies had a better record in 2006 than the Card's had. Go Phillies!

The Marlins!
They had a bunch of rookies last year and did incredible. just a little more consistency and les rookie mistakes they'd be the best team without a fight. they have locked in Dontrelle Willis if they can keep Cabrerra it'll be the knockout punch to every other team.
