A baby at 17 weeks is generally on the small side lol. Some women haven't even felt the first kicks at this point.

I think the tech just ment the baby was still so small, so it's fine not to feel kicks every day. I started feeling kicks around 17 weeks, and it would feel them everyday and then it would stop for a few days. My doctor said the baby still has so much "room" to run (especially if it's not your first because you expand quicker) that it was natural. I am 23 weeks now and it's now starting to be everyday. My doctor told me they wouldn't worry about daily movements until around 28-30 weeks. Good Luck!!

Hi there, When I was expecting my fourth baby they kept a check on me because I had been taking codeine long-term, and they thought the baby would be small or there may be other problems.
I was scanned regularly and they still said she was small.
Worse, they told me she'd have breathing problems when she was born.
I gave birth in Feb '06 My daughter was 7lb 4oz, and breathing perfectly well, there was nothing wrong with her.
These 'experts' frightened the sh!t out of me for more than 6 months during pregnancy and even got her predicted birthweight wrong using 'high tech' scanners.
Please don't worry, they could be WAY wrong like they were with me.
Best wishes!
S

17 weeks is early to feel the baby kick..maybe she meant that it was small still for you to be worried about feeling it kick? Call your dr and mention it to her so you don't drive yourself nuts worrying for the next 2 weeks.

Ask your doctor at your appointment.Being small for gestational age doesn't mean the same thing as "birth defect"

Could be a sign of IUGR, do a search on google to find out more information.

what she probably meant is the baby is too small to feel all the movements.
as the baby grows more, you will feel him or her move more often..
right now the baby is too small to feel every move.
