Pregnancy 1 - apples
Pregnancy 2 - ?? nothing in particular except ice cream.
Pregnancy 3 - Pickles, popcorn, citrusy fruit, and hot chocolate
Now I'm on pregnancy 4 and (17 wks) nothing really sticks out as a craving yet other than my normal chocolate.

My first three were all girls

Generally speaking it's not so much the kind of food they crave but the type... cravings are calling of your body for nutrients it's lacking but in need of to grow a strong and healthy fetus.

Most women will characterize their cravings into two categories salty and sweet.

Old wives tales say a salty craving means your having a boy and a sweet craving means your having a girl. LOL. I don't believe in wives tales though :)

Each women craves different things. However, if you are craving things like suphur (matches) and clay then you need to speak with your doctor because there could be a nutrient deficiency that your body is trying to get.

In my first pregnancy I craved Fries and only from BK.
In my 2nd pregnancy I craved Chinese Food any and all kinds
In my 3rd pregnancy I craved anything salty (miscarried this one 2nd tri-mester)
In my 4th pregnancy I craved cheeseburgers and would only eat cheeseburgers and tomatoes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

It's differnt for every woman and my doctor told me tht its typically nutrients your body isn't getting. For example, he had a patient who was craving dirt! Turns out her zinc levels were low. I craved a hamburger a time or two - I think I needed the iron, I'm not usually into red meat.

Other than that, the only universal (almost universal) thing I hear is ice cream!

I was a very strict vegetarian and when I was 8 weeks I needed a meatball sub from Subway. Then since I hadn't eaten meat in forever I threw the whole thing up, and had to live on Jamba Juice and protein shakes for 3 days. It was fun.

We crave all different things. Mine come and go sometimes within minutes and other times I've craved the same things for months. I started with coffee. That lasted for the first three months. Then I went to bacon, that lasted awhile, now I can't even stand the smell of bacon. Then I craved pasta with peanut butter and garlic and chili flakes and green onions, sometimes with shrimp. I know.... lemonade, ice, snow, apple pie, SALT!!!!, and now I am craving corned beef sandwiches with cole slaw and Russian dressing and swiss cheese, grilled on rye bread...yum going to eat now.

Every woman craves for something different. Like my cousin for example: When she was pregnant she craved strange things like french fries with loads of peanut butter with a scoop of ice cream and hot fudge on top! But don't forget she's eatting for not one but two mouths.
