By upper middle-class I mean few money problems, a comfortable lifestyle, well educated children, a couple foreign holidays a year, a nice well furnished home in a desirable area, and two late model automobiles

I think the point about manners and attitude to life is relevant here, it is not simply money. But the fact remains that you cannot maintain a good life style without money and you asked for a figure so... I'd say £60k at least per annum....either one professional respectable wage, or joint incomes.

You can't consider people to be middle class or upper middle class by these things alone. I live in a nice affluent cul-de-sac, where the families generally meet all the qualifications you have mentioned, except for the well-educated children. All would no doubt consider themselves upper middle class, however because 3/5ths of them have thug children, are not well spoken and need to prove themselves by flaunting their wealth with their continuous redecorating and boasting about expensive holidays, they are therefore low class schemie peasants or chav scum rather than genuinely middle class. The remaining families are not obviously thuggish or boastful, and so are more genuinely middle class, but with similar income, cars, houses etc.
To answer your question, I should think a working couple each earning an average income would be able to support this lifestyle.
