Okay, I have some clothes that have actually never been worn and still have the price tag on them. Should I charge the price on the tag or lower it? I also have some shirts and pants (mostly shirts though) that have only been worn once or twice and are in great shape, and pretty nice. What would be a good round about figure for those? I also have a lot of childrens clothing that are in great shape also (she out grew them very fast). Any general advice on how to price these things?
Oh, and I may be thinking ahead but I just thought of this idea last night. I'm going to be in Rome for a year starting in June and thought having a yard sale would be a great way of earning some extra money. Thanks for the help.

Oh, I don't think I'm going to get a lot. My financial situation is already set....I just thought this would be a nice way to get rid of some things and make a little extra cash for all the gelatos (Italian ice cream..yum)!

For the clothes with the price tag still on them, charge 25-50% of what you paid for the item. Definitely stick with 50% for any designer or practical/versatile items.
For the used women's clothing, figure out an average fair price. Ex. $5 per item & offer 5 items from same rack for $20.
For the kids' clothing - sort by type (shirts, tees, pants, sweaters, etc.) and figure out an fair price for each category. Ex. all kids' tees $1 & 6 tees for $5.
Keep prices in whole dollar amounts to keep things simple. (No coins, have lots of one & 5 dollar bills on hand so you can break a $20.)
Be sure to have everything well organized & use color coded tags to help you stay organized.
Decide on a fair price & avoid haggling. Stick to your pricing schedule or else you might just end up wasting your time.
Get friends to help you watch all of your stuff & keep things neat. It's important to have them understand how things are organized and what the color coding system is.
Consider going to a consignment shop or used clothing store to sell your things instead. Other options include participating in a city wide garage sale or a rummage sale organized by a church.
You might also want to consider www.craigslist.com - especially for the kids' items.
Be sure to deposit all proceeds in your savings account & earmark it for your trip.

For the items with tags, don't charge any more than half of the price on the tag. I'd take off about 70%.
There's a place called Plato's Closet that buys your new and used clothes, which might be a good place to try. They're kinda picky, so if that doesn't work out, you can look up different consignment shops in the phone book and try them with your clothes. I, personally, would do the consignment stuff. They usually give you 40% of what they make off of it, and take it off of the racks in 3 months (I think). That way, you will have sold all of your stuff before June.
Yard Sales are always fun and fast ways to earn some extra cash. Hey, have fun in Rome! A year? That's so cool! I'm going to Spain for a week, and I thought I was cool, but not compared to a year! Enjoy your trip, and really take in every experience (especially the beautiful men, the shopping, and the food!). :)

Yard sales are meant to earn a little extra spending cash, not quite the ammount that I think you are hoping on earning. The childrens clothes should be priced around 50 cents to one dollar for the good ones, and as low as 10 cents for any with any wear or stains. Your clothes, tags or not should be priced WAY below what is on the tag. I try never to go over five dollars unless it is a super special really nice dress or pair of pants. If they are that nice, you might look around your area for clothing stores that buy, sell and trade clothes. They will probably give you more money than you can get at a yard sale. I always try to remember that you can get a brand new pair of childrens pants at Wal-Mart for 5 bucks, so I try to base my pricing off of that. Good luck and enjoy Rome.

Hi, well first off it is a yard sale....people are looking for a bargain. So whatever the tag says knock off a few dollars. Try and keep your prices a little higher than what you really would like to get, as people will try and nickle and dime you. If you are looking for extra money, try a consignment shop instead, you are more likely to get higher prices than at a yard sale. But like I said the huge key is to keep things a little higher that what you would expect.....that way you get what you want, and the people feel they are getting a bargain! Good luck!!

At backyard revenues i've got been to, used infant clothing is going for 25-50 cents apeice for onsies, t-shirts, socks, and 50 cents-$a million for long sleeve shirts and pants. clothing or sweaters run $a million-$5, coats, snow pants, issues like that $5-$10. Nicer issues like dressy pants could additionally be $5-$10 because of the fact they have in many situations purely been worn some situations and does no longer have any marks or something on them. the main high priced young babies clothing i've got seen at a backyard sale grow to be a healthy that grow to be marked $25. It grow to be pants, shirt, jacket and tie. once you're watching for a lot greater effective than $a million or 2 for each element, then you definately would be greater powerful off merchandising them on ebay or to a consignment save. in case you consistently merely desire to do away with alot of stuff at as quickly as and maybe get somewhat returned, then a backyard sale is excellent.
