Lithium is anti-phsychotic drug. The song is about getting addicted to the pill and cant imagine life without the drug. The drug interferes with her relationships and she is somewhat proud of being phsychotic due to large amount of stress, but then again she wants to stop the addiction and move on with her life. Depression keeps her occupied but then she feels like lithium is taking over her life in a way she could never imagine; therefore, she wants to break that bad habit of pill addiction and actually have a balanced relationship.

Lithium is used in the treatment for bipolar disorder. The song is about a bipolar person who misses the manic phase of the disease that the lithium has controlled. The manias are when bipolars feel creative, high and energetic but pay a high price for it when the mania turns into depression. That's what the song's about. The person losing their personality to the medication that is helping them.

A primary battery (non-rechargeable) that is quickly entering mainstream electronic designs, particularly in consumer, portable equipment and non-volatile memory back up applications where small size, long life and low cost are the primary requirements. Lithium batteries have superior cold temperature performance and a shelf life of 5-10 years. The 3rd element, after Hydrogen and Helium. This position at one of the extremes gives it some interesting properties. ...

The name of the song is often attributed to the metal lithium's tendency to be found in mood stabilizers such as lithium carbonate and lithium orotate; because of this the lyrics are often interpreted as describing bipolar disorder. Nonetheless, there is much disagreement about the exact meaning and interpretation of it.

Lithium is an atom, an element of the Periodic Table. One of three elements forged in the Big Bang, along with Hydrogen and Helium.
It is sometimes used in treating clinical depression. I'm guessing the song's about that.

Lithium is typically a treatment for bipolar disorder ,though not all forms of bipolar disorder include major depression in their cycles."I want to stay in love with my sorrow, but oh god I want to let it go,"...I've been dealing with bipolar for so long, it feels strange to be truly happy, instead of manic or suicidal. More often than being happy, I find myself empty...so empty that I'd rather be miserable again.

lithium is an anti-psychotic drug but contrary to anthony s statement that this practice was started in the 1900's, it has actually been around for centuries in fact the name comes from Lake Lithi, a lake in Greece that in ancient times was used as a treatment for the mentally ill.

There is no way to describe a Nirvana song. Kurt Cobain's mind is beyond anyones comprehension. Just take it however you want it. To me; it is kinda talkin about how he was kinda just tellin everyone how he is who is so leave him the hell alone cuz your not gonna change him. He wants to be in his own world by himself. But thats just me. O! and btw, lithium is a drug.
