in a microcosm yes, this is correct. the cycle has to break somehow and that is why there is loans, grants, scholarships. if the parents are poor you qualify for more money. In reverse is it my job to pay for you to go to school just because I worked hard and made it? how is that fair to me? there are tons of low cost education centers around that gives very good education. just because you cant afford to go to some big D1 school doesn't mean you cant get an education.

My dad (who is a republican) told me it is my fault for not getting enough money for college. Well, i showed him. I am going and no student loans needed. I do have to say though, I thank him for saying that to me. Since i have to pay the entire college education by myself, i am not what some would call a slacker

I would bet it is a Republican and to some degree I will agree with him/ her. I know there are some cases where this would be false but in most cases failure to succeed is due to poor choices and lack of work.
